1ST PLACE WINNER OF PMI PUBLIC CONTEST Vale do Rio Doce promoted a competition for the design and construction of a Cultural Center with remnants of wood from the dismantling of Fazenda do Pontal in Itabira, where Carlos Drummond de Andrade spent his childhood. A complex work that demanded the survey of historical references and the creation of a new logic of space distribution. Doors, windows, supports, floors and ceilings remaining from the old headquarters, which were piled up in a shed for more than 30 years, now contrast with the modernity of the steel of the metallic structures. The concept of the project was based on the Critico Criativo rescue based on memory references of the old farm by the residents of the time of Itabira. The new space houses an auditorium, a bookstore with cyber café, a themed restaurant, a local handicraft store, exhibition rooms for the community in addition to administrative and service areas.
